It’s all about honest performance.
We believe the true purpose of make-up is to correct, cover and conceal. From our award-winning mascara to our creamy foundations, luxurious lipsticks to our silky eye shadows, each of our distinctive products performs as it’s meant to: precisely and beautifully.

Brenda Botha – Owner of MUD South Africa.

Brenda has been in the beauty industry for over a decade. She started out working as a therapist for Placecol Cosmetics in 2002, and grew within the company to an Area Manager. Within the Placecol structure she moved to Dream Nails and Body as a Business Developer.

Life leads you to different avenues and Brenda ended up at a South African make-up company, where she worked as a Sales/ Operational Manager. It was at this company where Brenda discovered her true passion in the industry: Being MAKE-UP!

Brenda went on her own in July 2011 – doing what she loves! She worked as a freelance make-up artist, doing Bridal make-up, make-up for TV, printed media and fashion shows. Apart from doing the makeup, she also facilitated workshops for many clients and corporate companies. There was a huge demand for Make-up Artist Trainings – at salons, as well as anyone aspiring to become a Make-up Artist.

She further went on to source a premium, professional make-up brand and launched it into the South African Market in 2012. Make-Up Designory (MUD) was her calling and she introduced the brand to the South African market with a bang!

MUD is set to grow to new heights with the launch of its first showroom in Pretoria, and the selling of Distribution outlets across the country.

Welcome to MUD South Africa!

MUD Spring Trends Forecast

mud step-by-step 2013 garden of dreams en 04
MUD SPRING TRENDS FORECAST – July 2013
KEEPING AN EYE ON THE INDUSTRY FOR YOU!

Spring is traditionally a time for subtle make-up—a fresh face with natural cheek colour, soft, barely-there lip tints and eyes that are feathered with earth tones and pastels—well, not this spring! In addition to red lips and full, lush lashes, one of the hottest trends in the spring/summer 2013 fashion circuit has been eyeliner. From classic winged black liner, to blue avant-garde “floating” eyeliner. Eyeliner is everywhere—and sometimes, the only bit of make-up you’ll see on the catwalk.
MUD have embraced the trend and have included their long-wearing Black Cake Eyeliner and Eyeliner Brush #210 into their Spring Collection “Garden of Dreams.” The soft pinky-peach collection was given an edge with the deep pigmented eyeliner, included to modernize the traditional “Spring Face”.

CAKE EYELINER, The Basics: A long-lasting, water-activated liner known for its precision and versatility. The make-up experts’ choice that’s perfect for everyday use. Create subtle or dramatic looks effortlessly with this professional-quality eyeliner. Go from a super fine line for everyday wear to a thicker line for more intensity. For an even application, wet the brush first then dip and roll into Cake Eyeliner. For a thin line, use only the tip of the brush and very little pressure; for a thicker line, apply more pressure to the brush. Allow liner to dry completely before fully opening the eye.

CREATE THE DREAMY LOOK:
The peachy perfect blend of soft hues accented with a defined angle eyeliner carries the newest trend of defined eyes into the new season with a fresh new twist.
STEP 1: Begin with the perfect foundation. Start off the look with a fresh base foundation using MUD Creme Foundation.
STEP 2: Apply the Eye Colour to the center. Apply the Cashmere Eye Colour on top of the lid and sweep the colour up towards the eyebrows.
STEP 3: Blend eye colours. Place the Pink Grapefruit Eye Colour in the inner tear duct of the eye and blend towards the center of the lid. Then apply towards the outer corner, blending towards the centre.
STEP 4: Using the #210 Angle Brush, Line the Black Cake Eyeliner on the top of the lid, just above the lashes. For a more dramatic look, thicken the line or add a winged angle towards the end of the lash.
STEP 5: Add flare to the lashes. The Black Volumizing Mascara adds to the look with more length and shine. The MUD #500 Mini Fan Brush gives you a more precise application.
STEP 6: Sweep the Glow Cheek Colour from the apples of the cheeks to the outer corner of the eye. Repeat for more colour and to intensify the look.
STEP 7: Highlight the cheek area. For a soft highlight, use the Cashmere Eye Colour to the top of the cheekbone and under the eye.
STEP 8: Add shine to the lip. Apply the Cupid Lip Glaze over the entire lip.

SPRING FUSION WITH SEAN CONKLIN
This September marks an industry revolution with world renowned, lead make-up artist for MUD International, Sean Conklin visiting South Africa for the first time at the Professional Beauty Show in Johannesburg on 1 & 2 September. He began his make-up career studying theatre at Mira Costa College and graduated from MUD’s Master Make-Up Program, Studio Hairstyling Course, and Airbrush Course. Mr. Conklin’s professional credits include numerous WB spots (Where L.A. Lives), HGTV spots (Selling L.A.), MTV’s Next, TV Land’s She’s Got the Look, and various infomercials and feature films. He has worked with numerous entertainment personalities, and he also teaches regular seminars for Make-Up Designory. Sean is also a volunteer for the Beauty Bus Foundation which provides In Home Beauty Services to the terminally and chronically ill and their caregivers in the USA.

Sean’s skills have impressed professionals around the world from shows such as The Emmy Awards, International Beauty Show, Teen Choice Awards, New York City Beat and Top Fashion Shows around the globe. He has worked with stars such as Rihana, Marcia Cross, Jason Alexander, Adam Arkin, Bill Mosely, Camryn Manheim, Jane Kaczmarek, Jason Priestly, Alanis Morissette, and Giovanni Ribisi.

Here are a few key points made by Sean in previous blog posts that impart a snippet of his knowledge:
•    As a make-up artist, there are three key ingredients to your career: your tools, your talk, and your talent. Your tools get the job done. Your talk (and what people are saying about you), bring in new business, and your talent shows up to confirm what you say you’re able to do.
•    DO NOT exceed the outer corners of the lid. Lay the handle of a brush on your face with the handle touching the outer   corner of the nose, outer corner of the eye to the end of the eyebrow. This will make for an easy guideline to prevent the outer corners from drooping.
•    Add corrector to the outer corner of the eye for a slight lift.
•    Always emphasize either bold eyes with subtle lips or subtle eyes with bold lips.
•    Use a cup to hold brushes while on set to prevent them from rolling or dropping onto the floor.
•    I love freckles as you can either choose to play them up with your makeup (always a personal favourite) or to conceal them using MUD’s Flawless Cream Foundation. The fun thing about having freckles is that you always have this option.

Sean will be demonstrating the versatility and quality of MUD Products at the MUD Stand and providing expert advice to anyone who wishes to see this make-up genius at work. During his stay he will also be conducting exclusive mini workshops at the MUD Showrooms in Gauteng, which can be attended in small intimate groups by enthusiastic professional make-up artists. Contact Brenda Botha on 084 956 5285 to book your seat at the workshops with Sean Conklin.

MUD (Make-Up Designory) is marking its mark on the South African beauty industry with reliable professional make-up products for our rainbow nation of skin tones, colours and shapes. Be on the lookout for new MUD Distribution centres coming to your areas soon and more exciting trends and tips!

It’s all about honest performance. We believe the true purpose of make-up is to correct, cover and conceal. From our award-winning mascara to our creamy foundations, luxurious lipsticks to our silky eye shadows, each of our distinctive products performs as it’s meant to: precisely and beautifully.

AN EDUCATED APPROACH TO MAKE-UP. At MUD, creating honest make-up products and providing quality education has been our passion for the past decade. We plan to stay loyal to that tradition. That’s what makes us different from other make-up brands. We conduct rigorous testing for our MUD line of products through industry experts and up-and-coming make-up artists at our highly regarded schools in Los Angeles and New York, to ensure we meet professional standards for today and tomorrow.

So whether you dare to be different, prefer polished and professional or simply want an all-natural look, MUD promises quality, long-lasting wearability, flawless application and radiantly accurate colour. With our systematic lines, precision tools, how-to guides and insider tips, we’ve eliminated the frustrating guesswork. Just simple, smart, versatile make-up. The beauty editors were then treated to mini manicures, hand massages, back neck and shoulder massages, hair styling and finally full make-up to show the full effect of how make-up can transform your face. (See before and after photos.)

Saturday 1 June was attended by 40 VIP Clients in a morning and afternoon session where they were introduced to the Showroom, service offering and information regarding the benefits of the MUD Products. Jolanda also did a make-up demonstration to ensure all her clients understood the basics of make-up application and Line, define, pop and finish!

Anja Cruse-Bothma treated each guest to a make-over and image consulting talk on both days with insights to finding your inner style and basic guidelines to get the right look for you. Jolanda closed the launch by saying “I have a passion for transforming my clients’ outward appearance; I wish in turn that directly influences how they feel inside.
